Illegal Burn: HLFD dispatched at 12:50 for an Illegal Burn. Crew advised person on scene that their actions were illegal and had person extinguish the fire. All units clear at 13:05

Smoke Investigation: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 06:40 for smoke filling a basement. Upon arrival a light smoke condition was found. Investigation found a malfunctioning washing machine to be the cause. All units clear at 07:45.

Unknown Type Fire: HLFD dispatched at 18:50 for the "Illegal Burn". Crews searched and found the fire to be a legal outside chimney. All units cleared at 15:19.

Structure Fire VTHS: HLFD VFD MFD and PVFD dispatched at 08:25 to a confirmed working fire in the kitchen of Vernon Township High School. Fire was extinguished by school personnel. All units clear at 09:24.

Activated Alarm: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 13:28 to the HLFD fire house for an activated alarm. Alarm activation was caused by alarm test by the repairman. All personnel canceled at 13:31.

CO Alarm Activation: HLFD dispatched at 11:13 to an activated CO alarm. Cause was found to be a closed chimney pipe for a wood burning stove. House vented and pipe opened. All units clear at 11:56.

MVA Rollover: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 13:41 to an MVA rollover with possible entrapment on Canistear road. Upon arrival no entrapment was found and all units except 2 were released. Two crews stood by on the scene till the tow truck arrived and removed the vehicle. All units clear at 15:20.

Telephone Pole Fire: HLFD dispatched at 01:47 to a chimney fire spreading to the roof. Upon arrival 421 discovered the fire to be only a telephone pole and canceled all responding units. All units clear at 02:25

Stove Malfunction: HLFD dispatched at 13:55 to a stove that sparked. Crew shut off power to the stove. All units clear at 14:09.

Tanker Shuttle: HLFD, VFD, and PVFD dispatched at 08:29 to respond in to Franklin to operate in a tanker shuttle for a working structure fire. All apparatus were put on standby in the staging area. All units clear at 09:56.

02/25/06

Electrical Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 01:02 to a possible electrical fire. Home was searched with the TIC and nothing was found. Outside the residence a large tree branch was found to have fallen and pulled the neutral electrical line from the home. Crews shut off the power and had the power company dispatched to resolve the issue. all units clear at 01:42.

Activated Alarm: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 12:49 to an activated alarm that had been going off since the day before. 423 was called to the scene only and all other units told to standby. Crew searched the residence with the TIC and Gas meter and found nothing more then a malfunctioned head on one of the alarms. home owner was advised to get a new head for the alarm. all units clear at 13:19.

Structure Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 23:38 to a chimney fire possible structure fire. Upon arrival of 422 the call was upgraded to a working structure fire. PVFD, MFD and UGLFD were dispatched as mutual aid. The fire was suppressed in about thirty minutes, a quick knockdown saving much of the home. All units clear at 02:45.

02/14/06

Smoke Investigation: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 14:25 to a garage filled with smoke. Homeowner vented the area and turned off the furnace before crews arrived. Officer on scene advised the homeowner to have the the furnace serviced. Crew vented the residence due to low readings of CO. All units clear at 14:46.

Possible Electrical Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 15:46 for a possible electrical fire. Crews found no fire but the circuit breaker was warm. All units clear at 16:39.

Chimney Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 08:04 to a Chimney Fire. Crews investigated and removed debris from the chimney. Homeowner was advised to have the building inspector come and inspect the fireplace and chimney. All units clear 09:02.

Standby: HLFD dispatched at 23:15 to standby at Vernon Fire House while Vernon was out on a structure fire in Pochuck's district. All units clear at 02:58.

02/05/06

CO Alarm: HLFD dispatched at 07:44 to an Activated CO Alarm. HLFD chief upon hearing the conditions dispatched West Milford Company 5 to the scene. Crews found CO readings up to 40ppm in the basement caused by a furnace blow back. Crews vented the house and advised owner not to turn the furnace on until a certified technician fixed the problem. All units clear at 08:53.

MVA Rollover: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 16:25 to an MVA Rollover with possible entrapment. Upon Arrival of 415 the call was downgraded to a vehicle off the road no entrapment. 415 and 423 stood by till the tow truck arrived. All units clear at 17:40

Electrical Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 20:07 for a possible electrical fire. Upon arrival an investigation was done and nothing was found. All units clear at 20:36.

MVA: HLFD and VFD dispatched at around 14:38 for an MVA car vs. tree on rt. 515. HLFD was canceled when no entrapment was found before response.

Brush Fire:  HLFD dispatched at 08:26 to Cliffwood Lakes for a possible brush fire. No fire was found upon arrival. Engine was approached by a civilian who said they found the fire and had put it out. The Officer of the engine investigated the spot and then all units were clear at 08:58.

Brush Fire: Dispatched at 21:03 Canceled en-rout. All units clear at 21:26.

Illegal Burn: HLFD dispatched at 09:27 for an illegal burn that got out of control. Upon arrival crews found a large pile of construction supplies and part of a fence from a neighboring house on fire. A booster line was deployed and the fire was extinguished. All units cleared at 10:14.

Chimney Fire: HLFD, VFD, and MFD dispatched at 18:23 to a possible chimney fire. Crews checked the interior and cleared the chimney. No fire was found. All units clear at 19:02.

CO Alarm: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 08:32 to an activated CO alarm. Crews searched the residence with the Gas Meter and TIC and found nothing. Alarm was ruled to be activated due to a power surge. All units cleared at 09:08.

Brush Fire: HLFD dispatched at 15:10 to a brush fire by one of the ball fields. Crews quickly extinguished the blaze and cleared the scene when forest fire service arrived. All units clear at 15:34.

Chimney Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched to a possible chimney fire at 21:25. Crews searched the residence and found nothing. All units clear at 22:14.

Brush Fire: HLFD dispatched at 11:38 for a brush fire. HL security extinguished most of the blaze before the fire department arrived. The fire was near propane tanks but the tanks were not involved. Fire was extinguished and all units clear at 12:43.

Landing Zone: HLFD dispatched at 21:33 to set up a landing zone for north star. The Helicopter landed and took off with out incident and all units cleared at 22:26.

Smoke Coming from a Chimney: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 12:18 for a call of smoke coming out of a chimney. Upon arrival it was found that the homeowner had a wood stove on and all units were canceled. All units clear at 12:50

Activated CO Alarm: HLFD dispatched at 18:31 to an activated CO alarm. Crews searched with the CO meters the house and found the cause was a 12vt battery being charged. House was vented and all units were cleared at 19:48.

Smoke Investigation: HLFD dispatched at 10:29 to a smoke investigation. Smoke was caused by a plastic tub on the wood stove. Crew vented and had EMS Respond for the homeowner who was feeling ill due to smoke inhalation. All units clear at 11:21.

Forest Fire: HLFD dispatched at 14:25 to a forest fire at the Cherry Ridge Rifle Range. HLFD protected a structure. Forest Fire took command of the scene and all HLFD units were cleared at 16:31.

Structure Fire: HLFD dispatched at 22:31 mutual aid in to Upper Greenwood Lake for a working structure fire. Fire was extinguished and all units clear at 03:05.

General Fire Alarm: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 22:35 to a General Fire Alarm at the Bank of New York. 423 responded to the scene all other units stood by. All units clear at 23:01.

Chimney Fire: HLFD dispatched at 20:38 for a chimney fire. Homeowners were cleaning out their chimney, there was no fire. Nothing showed up with the TIC. All units clear at 21:19.

Smell of Smoke: HLFD dispatched at 06:39 for a strong odor of something burning in a residence. VFD put on standby. Crews investigated the home and found an odor of something burning but no signs of fire or heat. House was searched with the TIC. All units cleared at 07:21.

Gas Leak: HLFD dispatched at 18:05 for a gas leak. Crews investigated and found a slight odor of gas but no leak. No readings were picked up on the gas meter. Gas was shut off and homeowner was advised to call the gas company. All units clear at 18:38.

Tanker Strike Team: At 07:49 Franklin Fire Department Activated Sussex County Tanker Strike Team 1 to respond to a working structure fire. HLFD tanker 424 responded to the scene along with other county tankers. Once the fire was extinguished 424 and all other strike team units were released. 424 was back in quarters at 09:20.

Chimney Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 18:34 to a possible chimney fire. Crews cleaned the stove out and investigated. All units cleared at 19:01.

Possible Structure Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 15:40 to a possible structure fire. Call ended up to not be for the district and all units were canceled at 16:10.

Lift Assist: HLFD dispatched at 14:13 for a special call to help the ambulance squad lift a patient. All units clear at 15:10.

MVA: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 10:20 for an MVA with possible entrapment. All units canceled at 10:27 with no entrapment confirmed.

Brush Fire: HLFD dispatched at 11:46 for a large brushfire. Fire was quickly extinguished and all units were clear at 12:55.

Structure Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 23:13 to a confirmed structure fire. Arriving units HLFD units quickly knocked down the fire in a minutes saving the home. Cause is not confirmed but it is believed to have been faulty wiring in the attic. All units clear at 01:49.

Odor of Gas: HLFD dispatched at 17:30 for an odor of propane gas near a barbeque grill. Crew disconnected gas and shut off remote shutoff. All units clear at 18:08.

Flood Duty: HLFD dispatched at 16:30 to Matamoras, PA to assist with flood duty. Crew assisted in pumping basements and venting residences. Crew back in quarters at 22:00.

Pumpout: Chief 420 dispatched at 11:56 for a pumpout, approx 1.5 feet of water in the basement. Water was drained but basement kept filling. All units clear at 12:58.

Pumpout: HLFD dispatched at 20:50 for a basement filled with around 2 feet of water. Water was removed and all units clear at 21:45.

06/27/06

Oil Spill: HLFD dispatched at 16:26 for oil leaking from an above ground oil tank. County Hazmat was notified. Home Checked for CO levels three times no, levels were found. 427 monitored the situation from the lake until arrival of Hazmat. Scene turned over to county Hazmat and Vernon PD.  All units clear at 19:05.

Activated Alarm: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 18:04 to an activated commercial fire alarm. Crews investigated the interior and found no cause for the alarm activation. 421 remained on scene till a key holder arrived to reset the alarm. All units clear at 18:44.

MVA: HLFD dispatched at 14:00 for an MVA, car leaking gas. General gas cleanup was done. All units clear at 15:33.

Dishwasher Fire: HLFD dispatched at 23:04 originally for a C.O. alarm. Before response units were advised it was a dishwasher fire. Fire was extinguished before units arrived on scene by running water inside the dishwasher. Dishwasher was removed from residence and home was searched for extension. Residence was vented due to C.O. readings of around 103ppm. All units clear at 00:21.

Smoke Investigation: HLFD dispatched at 20:39 for a smoke investigation. 423 and 422 searched area and found no smoke. All units clear at 21:05.

Activated Alarm: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 10:17 for an activated alarm. HLFD canceled at 10:20.

Pump Out: HLFD dispatched at 17:28 for a pump out. Crew removed 4 inches of water from the residences basement. All units clear at 18:05.

Structure Fire: HLFD, VFD and MFD dispatched to a structure fire at 14:52. Upon arrival a first alarm was sounded. Mutual Aid was received from PVFD, Warwick NY, West Milford Company 3, West Milford Company 5, and Hardyston. Fire was extinguished and all units clear of the scene at 19:26. Cause of the fire was a lightning strike.

Smoke Condition: HLFD dispatched at 12:00 for a smoke condition. Vernon FD units responding to the kitchen fire sent to investigate. Call was unfounded and all units clear at 12:03.

MVA: 11:56 - 12:30 While Highland Lakes and Vernon were operating at a Kitchen fire on Lakeside Drive West dispatch notified Chief 420 of an MVA at the intersection of Whispering Woods and Highland lakes road with wires down, car on fire with occupant unconscious inside. Vernon FD was diverted to the MVA. The person was assisted out and transported to hospital. Vernon FD stood by accident as Highland lakes continued to operate at the kitchen fire.

Kitchen Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 11:43 to a kitchen fire. Occupants extinguished the fire before arrival of the fire departments to the scene. Home was checked for extension and microwave was removed from the home. All units clear at 13:08.

Brush Fire: HLFD dispatched at 06:46 to a small brush fire behind the Highland Lakes post office. Fire was extinguished and all units clear at 07:17.

Electrical Fire: HLFD dispatched at 11:34 for an electrical fire. Crews checked for extension and found nothing. All units clear at 11:52

Electrical Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 21:54 to an electrical fire. Upon arrival an exterior socket was found smoking. Power was shut off to the residence and the socket was pulled and the structure was checked for extension with the TIC. Homeowner advised not to turn power back on till an electrician checks the residence. All units clear at 22:32.

Structure Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 20:25 for a fully involved structure fire. Immediately upon arrival of the first unit a first alarm was sounded. MFD, PVFD, West Milford Company 5, Hardyston, and the Sussex County Fire Marshal were dispatched.  Fire was extinguished and crews commenced overhaul of the structure. All units clear at 23:47.

Bedroom Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 11:01 to a possible structure fire. Upon arrival smoke conditions were found. Crew of 423 deployed a line in to the structure and quickly knocked down the fire. Crews then searched for extension with the TIC then ventilated.  All units clear at 12:43.

Landing Zone: HLFD dispatched at 22:24 to set up an landing zone for Northstar. All units cleared at 23:18.

Illegal Burn: HLFD dispatched at 20:40 to an Illegal burn. 422 advised owner not to burn anymore. All units clear at 20:59.

Activated Alarm: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 12:03 to a second activated alarm. HLFD and VFD canceled en rout by Chief 416 and 420. All units clear at 12:36.

Activated Alarm: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 10:36 for an activated alarm. Upon arrival and entry in to residence a haze and strong odor of something electrical burning was found. Crews from Highland Lakes and Vernon searched the residence with two T.I.C.'s. A malfunctioning furnace unit was found and service company was called. Alarm was disconnected and the Vernon Twp fire inspector was called to the scene. HLFD released from the scene to standby in quarters while VFD stood by on scene. HLFD units clear of the scene and on standby at 11:51.

Activated Alarm: HLFD dispatched at 12:12 for an activated alarm. Crew investigated and call was unfounded. All units clear at 12:45.

Tree on Wires: HLFD dispatched at 15:00 for a tree on wires, burning. Upon arrival the fire was out. 423 and 421 along with HL security closed the road until HL maintenance cane to close it off and wait for the electric company. All units clear at 15:30.

Smoke Condition: HLFD dispatched at 04:02 as part of a First Alarm to the Vernon PAL building for a smoke condition. Fire found in the HVAC equipment. All units clear at 04:51

Illegal Burn: HLFD dispatched at 12:06 for an illegal burn. 421 advised owner not to burn. All units clear at 12:24.

Possible Drowning: HLFD dispatched at 18:40 for a possible drowning at Highland Lakes Beach 3. Fire Department canceled en rout by Patrol on scene. All units clear at 18:44.

Possible Drowning: HLFD dispatched at 18:06 to a possible drowning at Highland Lakes Beach 3. Fire department members began search and rescue efforts immediately upon arrival.  Recovery was made by HLFD firefighters approximately one hour after initial dispatch. West Milford Company 5 assisted on scene. All units clear at 19:35.

Oil Spill: HLFD dispatched at 10:52 for an oil spill. Crew investigated homes and general area, then awaited County HAZMAT. Scene turned over to HAZMAT and all units clear at 12:39.

CO Alarm Activation: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 09:51 for an Activated CO Alarm with occupants feeling symptoms. Crews investigated and found no readings. Symptoms were believed to be heat related due to the current temperatures in the area.

Structure Fire: HLFD dispatched at 23:34 for a working structure fire on Lake Wallkill Road. Tanker 424 responded to the scene and Engine 423 stood by at Vernon FD. 424 worked in a tanker shuttle while the crew of 424 assisted in the extinguishment of the fire. All units clear at 03:36.

Activated Alarm: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 17:14 for an Activated Alarm. All units were canceled as per Vernon Chief. Alarm was accidentally sounded by the homeowner burning food. All units clear at 17:27

Landing Zone: HLFD dispatched at 10:55 to set up an landing zone for Northstar. All units cleared at 11:59.

Activated Alarm: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 15:10 for an activated alarm. Vernon chief on scene reported nothing showing and had all HLFD units standby with the exception of Engine 423 which was already on scene. All units clear at 15:48.

Search and Rescue: HLFD dispatched back to the scene of the search and rescue effort at 02:03 to assist in the search effort. Two 5 man crews were sent to the staging point in the woods. One Crew stood by at the staging area and the other went with a Search and Rescue operator. The crew linked with the search and rescue captain in the woods, as another team from the search and rescue located and began to make their way to the missing person. At around 04:30 the missing person was out of the swamp and with search team 2. The HLFD search team, along with the two members of the search team that were with them made their way out of the woods. All HLFD units clear and back in quarters at around 06:00. Search team 2 and the victim, who was unharmed and fully able to walk, stood by in the woods till daylight, then exited the woods.

Rescue Call: HLFD dispatched at 22:00 for the Rescue truck to respond to the scene of a search and rescue call. 426 arrived on scene and crew was sent home because the emergency personnel on scene only needed extra gas and scene lights. Captain 420 and Rescue 426 stayed on scene. All other HLFD personnel were released. Rescue 426 back in quarters around 06:00.

Illegal Burn: HLFD dispatched to an Illegal Burn at 19:05. Homeowner was advised not to burn. All units clear at 19:43.

MVA with Entrapment: HLFD dispatched at 12:40 for an MVA with Entrapment on the  Warwick Turnpike. Warwick Fire Department extricated the victim and canceled HLFD units en rout. All units clear at 13:17.

MVA with Entrapment: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 01:27 for an MVA with entrapment on Barry Drive North. Victim self extricated before crews arrived. Also a landing zone was setup at Highland Lakes Ball Field for the victim. All units clear at 02:31

Illegal Burn: HLFD dispatched at 15:34 to an illegal burn. Homeowner extinguished the fire and was advised by the fire inspector not to burn any more. All units clear at 16:15.

Activated Alarm GMMS: HLFD and PVFD dispatched at 05:23 to standby in quarters while VFD and MFD responded to Glen Meadow Middle School for an activated alarm. Upon arrival smoke conditions were found and HLFD and PVFD were moved to response. Fire was contained to an air conditioning duct. West Milford Company 5 stood by in Highland Lakes. All units clear at 06:30.

Activated Alarm: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 13:43 for an activated alarm. All units were canceled and clear at 13:56

Illegal Burn: HLFD dispatched at 19:43 for an illegal burn. Homeowner was advised not to burn anymore and fire was extinguished. All units clear at 20:05.

MVA Overturned: HLFD and VFD dispatched to an MVA overturned at 01:05. No occupants were found. 423 stood by on scene till the tow truck arrived and removed the vehicle. Due to the size of the truck a second tow truck was needed. All units clear at 03:12.

Telephone Pole Fire: HLFD dispatched at 04:21 for a telephone pole fire while crews were operating at a structure fire. 422 responded and investigated the fire. 422 clear at 05:27.

Structure Fire: HLFD, VFD, MFD and PVFD dispatched at 04:14 for a fully involved barn fire on lake Wallkill road. Engine 423 and Tanker 424 responded to the scene along with other township units. Fire was extinguished and all units clear at 07:25.

MVA with Entrapment: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 00:40 to canistear road for an MVA with entrapment and also to the Highland Lakes Ball Field to set up a landing zone for the victim. All units clear at 02:03.

Large Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 18:45 for a large fire in a backyard. Upon arrival of the Vernon chief fire was found to be an illegal burn and all responding units were canceled except one engine from VFD. All Highland Lakes units clear at 19:12.

Activated Alarm WMPS: HLFD dispatched at 09:06 to standby in quarters while VFD and MFD responded to Walnut Ridge Primary School for an activated alarm. All units clear at 09:22.

Stove Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 22:16 to a possible stove fire. Upon arrival no fire was found and stove was discovered to only be on self clean. All units canceled and cleared at 22:46.

Hay Bail Fire: HLFD dispatched at 21:20 to a hay bail fire. Fire was extinguished and all units clear at 21:43.

Landing Zone: HLFD dispatched at 19:21 to set up a landing zone. Helicopter canceled due to the weather. All units clear at 19:45.

MVA Rollover: HLFD dispatched at 03:23 for an MVA rollover on breakneck road. There was no injuries and no entrapment. Engine 425 stood by on scene till the tow truck arrived and removed the vehicle. All units clear at 04:44.

Rekindle: HLFD dispatched at 12:12 for a possible rekindle at the scene of the previous structure fire. Crew found no hotspots or sign of smoke. All units clear at 12:35.

Activated Alarm: HLFD dispatched at 06:36 for an activated alarm at the Highland Lakes Country Club. False alarm. All units clear at 06:54.

10/14/06

Rekindle: HLFD dispatched at 11:25 for a possible rekindle. Crew found some contents inside the house warm and smoking. They were removed and wet down. All units clear at 12:18.

10/13/06

Structure Fire: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 22:57 for a fully involved structure fire. Upon arrival of the first units a first alarm was sounded. MFD, and West Milford Co. 5 were dispatched to the scene. Fire was knocked down quickly by first arriving units. Overhaul was commenced to find and extinguish any remaining hotspots. The Sussex County Fire Martial on scene ruled the fire to be non-suspicious. All units clear at 02:57.

MVA Rollover with Entrapment: HLFD and VFD dispatched at 20:54 to an MVA rollover with entrapment. Victim extricated and flown out. HLFD set up a Landing zone at the highland lakes ball field for Northstar. All units clear at 21:35.

Activated CO Alarm: HLFD dispatched at 06:09 for an activated co alarm. Crew investigated the home and found no readings. Activation was caused by a dead battery in the alarm. all units clear at 06:30.

Tree on Wires: HLFD dispatched at 17:47 for a tree on power lines. All units clear at 18:10.
